Model licences

Last updated 27 October 2026

Spokn is built on openly licensed speech and language models, which run on your Mac. Their licences ask that their notices travel with the app, and they do: in Spokn, open Settings → Ear → Licenses to read them in full. A copy is also inside the app at Spokn.app/Contents/Resources/MODEL-NOTICES.txt.

Speech and sentence models

Spokn uses two speech models (the English ear and the medical ear) and a small sentence model. They are used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0, Apache 2.0 and Health AI Developer Foundations terms, as set out in the in-app notices. None of the models’ authors make or endorse Spokn.

Radiology vocabulary

Spokn includes a dictation-oriented subset of RadLex® 4.3 preferred names and synonyms, obtained via NCBO BioPortal. RadLex is a radiology lexicon produced by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and is licensed for commercial and non-commercial use under the RadLex License. RadLex® is a trademark of RSNA.
